Fanta KonatêONG África Viva; 2006 – Present Founder of this not-for-profit organization, Fanta produced conditions for human development through research and promoting cultural traditions of west Africa, especially Guinea and Senegal.

 

Instituto Famoudou Konatê; 2004 – Present Founder, coordinator, and dance instructor of the Institute, which has its main location in São Paulo, Brazil. Fanta Konatê and her troupe promote workshops, speeches, daily life experiences, and events associated with Culture art from the Guinea Republic in numerous cities, such as Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis, and Campo Grande among others.

 

Fanta Konatê & Troupe Djembedon; 2004 – Present Choreographer, dancer and singer of the group. They perform traditional rythms of her country, more specifically linked to the musical compositions of her village, which is of Malinkê ethnicity. The group has played at SESC (Carmo, Sorocaba, Vila Mariana, Pinheiros), III Jornada África Brasil in Brasilia, and Bien Bien Club.

 

Grupo Baratzil; 2003 to 2004 In this project Fanta participated as a choreographer, singer, and dancer The group put together works inspired by the musicalness of the djembê, Sabar, and other Afro-Brazilian sonorities.

 

Teatro Escola Brincante Instructor of Guinean dance through 2003. The space had been administered for 15 years by Antônio Nóbrega and Rosane Almeida.

ONG Medecins Sans Frontiers (Doctors without Frontiers) November 2001 – April 2002 Choreograher and Biomusician of strained children’s project in Conakry, capital of Guinea.

 

ONG Enfants Refugies du Monde (Children Sheltered from the World) June – September 2001 Biomusic intern joined by kids and teenagers from Sierra Leone. These children were lodged in four refugee camps within the forests of Guinea.

 

Estágios de dança de Famoudou Konatê (Dance Internships) 1995 – 2000 Summoned by her father Famoudou, Fanta led Guinean dance courses in Conakry, Guinea, to groups consisting of 20 to 30 members, that came from varied countries.

 

Estágios de dança de Ibro Konatê (Dance Internships) 1995 – 2000 Dance Instructor in Conakry, Guinea.

 

Ballet Faretá 1997 – 2002 Assistant choreographer, solo singer, and dancer. Considered the best private ballet in Guinea, Faretá holds many similarities to the main Guinean ballet; Ballets Africains, in which Famoudou Konatê participated as a soloist for 26 years. The director of this project was Karim “Exterieur” Keita.

 

Ballet Bolontá 1996 – 1997 As a choreographer, singer, and dancer, Fanta enhanced her directing skills and chorepgraphy conception in the domain of “Maitre” as well as other ethnic dances.

 

Ballet Soleil d’Afrique 1995 – 1997 Enhanced her management skills in dancer development, besides exploring other diverse Guinean ethnic dances. Macyre Sylla, a very devoted Guinean singer and dancer, was also part of this assemblage prior to Fanta.

 

CD Recording; “Rhytms and Songs from Guinea” from Famoudou Konatê - 1995 Fanta was the lead singer in songs #4 – N’Yerebi and #7 – Kuku. Additionally she performed as background vocalist in all songs of Famoudou’s instructive album which complements a book by Thomas Ott from the Institut für Didaktik Populärer Muzik.

 

Ballet Hamaná Sabou Nhumá 1993 – 1999 The group was composed by the Konatê family, under the guidance of Famoudou Konatê, and the leadership of his son, djembe soloist Billy Nankouma. Musicians; Ibro, Vieux, Diarra, Billy e Blackie Konatê. Dancers - Koria, Bijou, Koulako e Kade Konatê. The Hamaná ballet is distinguished from others in its playing and dancing technics, thus most resembling the the richer more complex tradition of Malinkê villages.
